Ronan’s beetle..
This fly has been catching more than any other for me here in Tasmania. Obviously it can be tied in any colours so pick colours to suit your local beetle!!
- Wrap tying thread a little beyond the bend of the hook.
- Cut out foam for wing case.
- Tie on the wing case like a tail.
- Tie in dubbing finishing close to the eye.
- Tie in a hackle long enough to palmer.
- Wind the tying thread to the end of the fly.
- Palmer the hackle.
- Tie in the hackle finishing at the eye.
- Pull the wing case over, tie in and whip finish.
- Trim off the foam and feather stalk.
- Trim off the center hackles to allow the fly to sit upright.
- The finished fly.
- Tie lots.. simple and effective!
