Ronan's report

Tuesday 04 November, 2014

The 31st was the last day of the general fishing season in Alberta. It was a beautiful day - the type that you have to skip out of work and spend it on a creek! Initially, I had planned on heading back to a lake to look for lake trout, but as I was travelling between cities, I would be passing through friend's home waters. It was the perfect situation to gamble on a water that neither of us had fished.

The gamble paid off. It ended up being a perfect day full of healthy rainbow trout. The trout were rising to dries and chasing streamers. They were easily spooked by our movement, but just as easily enticed to come out of cover for a fat streamer.

The highlight of the day was a fat 16 inch trout that my streamer pulled out of some fast water at a rocky shelf. The rainbow came unwillingly to hand, and left with a quick splash. On the very next cast the same rainbow came out of the pool to take a drifting stimulator. For a second time in only a couple of minutes the fish was splashing from the net back into the pool.

Who can't grin at willing fish like that?

Impatiently waiting 8 month to fish the stream again,
