Ronan's report

Sunday June 26th 2011

I have to admit to doing grass quite regularly. It's not my main choice of recreational diversion, but it's a great way to relax and while away an hour or two.

Isn't it amazing that evolution has provided such a nifty plant, easily grown, widely available, and so much fun!

The great thing about grass is that you don't need too much paraphernalia to get into it, you can easily fit everything you need in your pockets or a small bag: essential if you're sneaking outside unnoticed for a quickie.

I invariably feel as though grass enhances my performance. I'm definitely more relaxed on the stuff, things seem to make sense, I'm confident and I feel at the top of my game. When I'm not using grass I tend to tense up and fluff things much more regularly.

You do have to watch out though. I worry about becoming too reliant on the weed, and I worry about confusing its effects with reality. The real world, without grass, is one of higher tension, is faster moving, and a place where getting things wrong has real consequences.

I have to admit, though, that grass can seem to generate its own reality: some people don't use anything else and get really picky about it, measuring things out in exact quantities, and going through all sorts of hoops to get the best out of it.

I'm not dependent on the stuff, by the way. Oh no, I could give it up tomorrow if I wanted to. I gave it up last winter for three months – dead easy. But, d'you know what? All this writing and thinking about it has got me wanting some more. I think I'll just nip outside and do some more grass...

...casting that is. Grass casting.

What did you think I was talking about?
