Ronan's report

Monday 26th April, 2010

Today I'm in Singapore. I've met up with Amin Rahmat FFFCCI - who's a great guy and I'm looking forward to casting together tomorrow, we'll be running through the Masters syllabus. Maybe he'll take me in search of some Peacock Bass - however fishing is illegal in Singapore! Maybe that's just in the city, I'm not sure really. It's a $50 fine, and probably worthwhile. Hell it's one for the species list!

Now the species list is an interesting thing. I'd never counted them, but Peter Morse has, and he's on 194 (or something like that), and lots of people seem to know theirs. So I've been working mine out too. I've counted 50 so far, on fly, and I'm pretty sure I've missed a few, but I doubt I'll be much over 70. So there's a new challenge. To get to 300 before Morsie

Hell I'm not even sure how many species of trout I've had. And how many different whitefish species are there? Maybe I need photos.

Right, this coming weekend I'm in Hungary. I'm expecting 20 guys who are either CIs or taking their CI exam in three weeks. We'll be going through the CI test, using a pretty comprehensive workshop course I'm working on, and we'll be working together to hopefully get three new MCIs in the area as well.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there. I'll be involved in some mad driving rally to get over in time, which is exciting. And then next week it's the SL Scottish Meet. Some more testing, and I'll be fishing this time too. I'll have a couple of demonstrations on stuff I've learned from Peter Haysie in Tasmania. And some enormous Hopper Poppers from Shaun Ash - are the Scottish browns on Hopper Poppers yet?

The next SLTV show is in the wings (still). Needs about 10 hours editing. Hopefully I can get some of this done on the plane back to London. Lots of courses lined up - see below!

Cheers,
Paul
