Ronan's report

Saturday January 23rd 2010

I think I haven't really tied flies since we had Elvira - our youngest daughter, and that was in May 2009. It's not always easy to find time for it with two kids in the house :-).

But last weekend I made a soft start with some Sunray Shadows for a friend, and that gave me "blood on the tooth" as we say in Danish. It'll be nice to get back in the groove. A friend has ordered some salmonflies, and I need to get them tied first.

Then there must be 15 or 20 patterns that I want to try out, and then the 10-15 patterns I need to restock in my boxes. One pattern that needs a little works is a small tubefly sculpin imitation I did 1 or 2 years ago. Matt and I bounced some ideas back and forth, and after 4 or 5 attempts I arrived at something I liked, and with a few adjustments, it turns into a nice stickleback imitation.

I'll get some shots up of some of the flies as soon as I get them tied. I'm pretty sure Matt wil be interested in seeing what I arrived at after we talked fly-design.

Speaking of fly-design, I don't know how many of you followed Jeff Kennedy's project, "Drawing Flies 365" last year, but it was amazing, and this year Jeff Kennedy and Jason Borger have joined forces, and every Thursday, they present a new fly. They each make a rendition of the same - very interesting and inspiring.

Have a nice weekend, Y'All!
