Ronan's report

Saturday October 3rd 2009

It feels like autumn hit over night this year - one morning was just almost 10 degrees colder than the previous and I froze my a... off on the excavation :-)

Now - a few weeks later the trees are already yellowing and loosing their leaves! But it is of course October 3rd today, so it should come as no surprise. October is a fantastic fishing month. My local river closes on October 15th, so there's only a few days left to get that last salmon or seatrout.

After that it'll be saltwater fishing until spring - apart from the odd trip to another clubwater that we keep open all season. It used to hold a decent grayling population, but they have declined dramatically for some odd reason! In December, I'll be down there to see if there are still any around.

Today's PoD, a Black and Peacock - or Soft Hackle Red Tag - or ....., it has many names, but none the less, it's one of my favourites for early autumn! Together with a heavu point fly I fish it upstream on the dropper, and it seems to get the most takes if I simply let the flies swing after ended drift! The light dropper rises dramatically and that just works :-)

Next week, if all goes well, I'll have some new reviews for you!

Have a nice weekend!

Lars
