Ronan's report

Monday, 29th June 2009

All being well I'll be tearing down the motorway heading back to Madrid to catch a plane back to Hungary by the time this goes live. On the other hand I may still be at the airport trying to negotiate a rental car. My driving license was stolen, which makes things more complicated than normal, but at least my credit card works, which is quite surprising. That my license was stolen - hmmm some time ago, certainly last year and possibly the one before, and that I've only just come to renew it now, the day before flying to Spain, should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who knows me. Following many phone calls and emails DVLA are faxing my driving license to Spain. It will be interesting to see if this works... according to the man I talked to in Spain it should be ok, but I'm not convinced he understood anything I said!

So anyway, it's Wednesday and I'm really looking forward to the trip. I've visited Spain a few times now over the years - and love it! The people, the culture, the casting, the fishing - especially the Carp fishing, the amazing scenery and of course the wine. I'm becoming a bit of a wine connoisseur, while living here in Hungary.

Normally before a Spanish trip I have to practise my presentation casts - but not this time. That's because I'm giving a completely new course and it's all about Stillwater flyfishing - and casting. So that's GREAT! None of those complicated casts that end up in a pile - although I will be discussing the curve cast because I have a stillwater application for that one. And as I understand it the level of expertise will be high. Many of these guys are successful competition anglers in Spain - expert river anglers (I'm hoping to learn a thing or two) - but with little stillwater trouting in Spain it's very difficult to build years of experience. And if I have anything, I have that. SO it should be very interesting and I'm looking forward to it.

And I'm particularly looking forward to catching up with Carlos and family and Marc la Mouche! As well as my other friends there. And we'll be fishing, fishing for trout and hopefully Carp. I don't know if I'll be online anywhere, but if I am I'll hopefully have kept the Blog up-to-date. But we won't know until we find out.
