A slightly random collection of things today. I've been in the body shop for a few repairs in the last couple of weeks, so my mind has been on other things: suffice to say that flyfishing has taken something of a back seat for a while. But I'm back, and this time it's personal: I'm about to start what promises to be a fascinating project. Watch this space. Meanwhile, I spent last night drinking one of New Zealand's finest and tying up a few grayling flies for a forthcoming trip to one of the chalkstreams. I'm generally a big fan of the Red Tag, but I thought I'd have a browse through the flytying forum to look for some nymphly inspiration – and as usual, I was astounded by the talent hereabouts. Here's one pattern that caught my attention; but there are hundreds of wonderful things to look at here, so if you haven't stopped by for a while this is a good time to do it. Good to see Lars back doing what he does best yesterday – reminding us that Vikings are just a lot harder than normal human beings. Lars normally writes his page with one hand while tying klinkhammers with the other and eviscerating a sheep or two with his teeth; this week he was seatrout-fishing in sub-zero temperatures. We are not worthy! Oh, and I note that we have a new doctor in the house. Belated congratulations, Jan! (PS On a non-fishy note: I've become obsessed with Spotify, an amazing free music library and player with some great music-sharing features built in. It's still in closed beta, but if you're in the UK or some Euronordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Spain) I have a few invites; drop me an email or a PM on the board with your email address and the first few will get one. You won't regret it).
