I have a theory that sometimes people ruin things by analyzing them too much. This issue came up this past weekend when I was discussing the "greased" line steelhead fishing technique with a couple of steelheader friends.

It's a method generally considered to be a less productive than others if judged based on the total number of fish that are hooked. However, it is an incredible technique in that it is simple, elegant, and pure, and requires a bit of what many consider to be a miracle for it to work.

So, the question was, "Why fish those tiny flies on a floating line?" The expectation was a long analysis. My answer was anything but...

"Because it's AWESOME!"
