Ronan's report

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I have found a new hobby in the hobby. It's really one of the things that I truely enjoy about flyfishing - there are so many "branches" and somehow, most of them seem to appeal to most (or many) flyfishers.

I really enjoy flytying, and I tie most kinds of flies. Dries, nymphs, flies for imaginary saltwater-fishes, salmon- and seatrout flies, pikeflies etc. One style of fly that I have never dwelled on are the American steelhead-flies.

Matt's beautiful fly, Dark Side of The Moon (what Hell kind of a hippie name is that anyway, Matt? :-) really caught my eye, and I tied a couple. Then I started thinking, and remaining quite true to the original tying, I converted the fly into a Scandinavian tubefly - and then I was on a roll!

I got a hold of a couple of books on steelhead flies, and searched the net, found a bunch of flies and started tying. The flies turn out great, and they'll be featured in an article later on!
