A very simple tie - thread, two balls of dubbing and 2 turns of hackle and you have a very effective ant-pattern.

I tie on the lightest hooks I can find. The fly isn't the best floater in the world, but a light-wire hook helps - as does an application of gink! Fihing it damp or even sub-surface (as in just under it) is also deadly, but difficult!
