Picture of the Day
Fall Colors

A larger than average hatchery steelhead beginning to show signs of spawning coloration even though it would not have attempted to spawn for another four to six months. Since hatchery steelhead have been shown to dilute the genetic fitness of the species when allowed to spawn with wild fish, my friends and I prefer to keep the hatchery fish that we catch, even though we are all strong C&R advocates in a general sense. Hatchery fish are marked before being released by clipping their adipose fin, which heals to a dull bump. This one will have its end on the BBQ or smoker to be shared amongst good friends as we celebrate the end of another great summer.
