Lead Line

Something that will make you duck and hide in a ditch if it even remotely comes close to hitting you. Lead lines were really popular for fishing on the rudder (Northampton Style) until anglers realised that it was either extremely complicated (which I think it may be BTW although I'm not too clued up here) or completely mind-numbingly dull. I tried it in NZ a couple of times but apart from the occasion when we drove the inflatable boat into a barbed wire fence, it was a fairly uneventful experience.
