Inanga

Maori name for the native galaxias minnows of New Zealand. They adult spawn in the sea and the juveniles that ascend the rivers are termed 'whitebait' and considered a delicacy by fishermen and trout. Lake-locked dwelling inanga are called smelt and are major food source for trout in Rotorua and Taupo lakes.
