The world's best flyfishing site.

A drogue is an underwater parachute used in boat fishing. This device slows the drift and can be used to angle/straighten the drift. By using a G-clamp and positioning the drogue attachment near the stern, you force the boat to drift downwind at an angle towards the stern. By positioning the drogue attachment nearer the bow, you force the boat to drift in that direction. I only ever use a drogue on rowing boats or if it is necessary to get the flies down deep, finding it preferable to cover large amounts of water quickly.

NB many drogues come complete with a hole. They do not need this hole; it is merely included as a feature of interest.

A conical bag made of canvas or plastic, trailed on a rope from the stern of a vessel to control directional stability or speed of drift.
