Alder Fly

A hard winged sedge-look-alike that hatches throughout the early part of the season. It has nothing to do with the sedge and lacks the long antennae. It is said that trout do not eat them, being suggested that they are rather tasteless. Whether this is so or not I cannot verify having never eaten them personally, however the larvae of the alderfly is regarded by trout as a speciality and is a great early season pattern.
