Bit of a late night flytying session involving far too much Palinka and some very good SF. It’s surprising that we tied any flies, let alone had a competition, erm which we won’t talk about. Well OK I will, I think the competition was to tie a fly that looked most like one of Lars’ flies, which would have been fine and I would have won but for the fact that we didn’t have any of the right materials. For some strange reason however, Peter started his stopwatch. I don’t know if he was expecting all the flies to be identical and that this was a tie-breaker or if it was some cunning ploy to get us to tie quicker, but whatever it was it didn’t work. You simply can’t rush professionals.

30 minutes later Farazs emerged from a frenzy of feathers to finish off his first one (he went on to tie another), being far more meticulous than him, I was still at the stage of selecting materials. Zsombar was way behind, and in fact was a non-finisher. We also tied a few rabbits for pike and some damsel nymphs for bass. Slightly different to be tying around a table and not around a campfire. I’m going to figure out a way of tying around the campfire at Latohead, perhaps I’ll invent the campfire flytying chair. It will have wheels and whistles.
