First fish… and second fish!

Just spent the afternoon fishing with Jo. Had a couple of fish. One around four and another of six and a quarter. Nice start. Both on smallish nymphs. Truck seems to work, so it’s all go!

Bloody hard day fishing with Adam on Rutland. We both landed a couple of fish. And we lost a few and missed a few. All the fish seemed to be feeding in only one area, and of course there was a fair bit of pressure to get onto them. Good fun fishing with Adam outside of Hungary (Adam is a brain researcher living in Manchester, which means he kills mice for a living) and it was a great day!

Adam was doing some weird competition sinking line/booby thing and I took them on dries.

That’s it! Out of here. NZ next (apart from a few late photos from Grafham!)

Friday at Hanningfield

Fishing with Stoats. I only landed three but lost a bunch and turned many! Not quite on the ball yet. Need to trout fish more – Imaginary Asping has left me slightly off-peak. Feeling pretty insatiable at the moment however. Anyway great afternoon and here are some shots. Rutland today!

Piking…

November 5th, 2009 No comments

Fishing today with Sean for a couple of hours on my mum’s river. I only fish it a couple of times/year at the most. Some better pike. Lost the first fish, landed the next two. Interesting takes, had to jiggle the fly in front of their noses. Bigger fish was 8lbs, the other was slightly under. Not bad.

This river got wiped out maybe 5 years ago following some fool tipping varnish down a drain – killing double figure carp and everything else for two kilometres. The past couple of years it’s been full of small jacks and appears now to be well on its way to full recovery. Very very sad to see a river full of dead fish. It will take a long time for the carp population to recover but given time they should.

Hanningfield

A bit of a late night flytying with Palinka. We managed to drink it all, which is a relief. No idea how we managed to get up at 8am, phew, these early morning starts are always hard. Personally I’ve never had a problem getting up with the sun, but I’m not sure Sean has been up this early before. And it was obviously that Snake had never been up this early too, in fact he had to pack in and sleep in the car for a few hours. Anyway we caught some fish. Trevor had eight I think – or something like that – certainly he had more than me, on a secret gold head daddy… because you know, that’s what the fish were on. I had five on Bibios and other stuff like that.

Lost a really nice fish early on in the day. Could have been five pounds. Probably MUCH more. Bastard.
