Ronan's report

Monday September 13th, 2010

I'm back! You may not have noticed that I had gone, and that's because Sexyloops is a well-oiled machine. A late night text to Lars said, "Lars, we're fucked! I have no Internet and it could take a week to fix!" Lars answered, "It's OK dude, SL is a well-oiled machine and I'll make sure it keeps running, my FP will be late but that's completely normal, remember I'm a Viking!"

Thanks Lars and thanks Eric! (Eric may also be a Viking - he has the name and sometimes the beard).

So anyway, I've been sailing. There's a large lake here in Hungary, Lake Balaton, also known as the Hungarian Sea. It's - I don't know exactly - maybe 80km long and 5-10km wide, and in places it gets deep, sometimes over 4 metres! Mostly however the depth sounder shows it to be 2 metres, so how they work out the average depth at 4 metres I have no idea. Maybe they just measured it at Siofok.

The sailing's been great, and I don't think I'll be back for another 4 or 5 days yet. I've kidnapped my Hungarian teacher, Zsofia, because it's a difficult language to learn and we're on an adventure. The lake cuts up rough in anything much over a 10-12 knot wind. In fact even 10 knots can be exciting.

The buzzer hatches have to be seen to be believed, and for some reason they all wish to sleep inside the boat. The weather has been fairly shit this weekend, heavy and continuous rain, and on Thursday we saved another boat from certain destruction when the storm broke its mooring ropes. It's been all-go.

Some harbours have Asp. Some don't. Although one has a Sauna, which in some small way made up for it. Tonight I'm planning some intense Asp action - and in fact all the way back to Kesthely. Throwing randomly off the back of the yacht has yet to produce but it's going to happen - it's all part of the plan.

Right now I'm in Siofok, although we're going to head out after I've finished this page. Next year I may head out from Siofok again, but next time the other way: down the Sio Canal, the Danube and out into the Black Sea. From there it's a short hop to the Mediterranean and Bonito.

Anyway, that's next year. This year and in fact next month, we have the SL Meet in Hungary. This is our end-of-summer gathering, with local and International instructors, from Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Austria and the UK. If you're interested in certifications then this is no problem. CI we can handle without much notice. If you're keen on the MCI let me know fast because all the potential MCI candidates have decided on next April/May for their exams!

Last year we had around 30 attendees. It's a free event. Accommodation is 12-20 Euros/night. Evening meals are 10 or 12 Euros depending on the exchange rate - and amazing. We eat like kings and wine and palinka are included.

Mark Stoats and Trevlett are visiting a week earlier so we can fish Bosnia, probably the Ribnik. If you want to join us please let me know. Closest airports are Budapest (2 hrs drive) and Zabreb (90 minutes). Latohegy where we meet, is 5 minutes to the Drava River (Imaginary Asp fishing) and we have a small lake we can fish with Black Bass - also 5 minutes.

There'll be casting demonstrations, a flytying evening, lumi-line fights, casting competitions, group tactic disussions and everything else you've come to expect from us.

Email me if you're coming or need more info (what else do you need to know?!). OK I'm out of here. Have a fantastic week all!

Cheers,
Paul
