Ronan's report

Tuesday 24th August, 2010

Objective: Stealth in, nail a big one and sneak out

The Fish: Spotted Bass originally from Shasta 15 years ago and completely untargetted. Last sighted 5 years ago when I picked up one out of the shallows.

Location: The bankrupt gravel pit that flooded during the big one in '96 and got turned into a city lake, possibly on the wreck of the F4 Phantom dropped in for divers.

Craft: the classic pedal boat rental. BTW, if anyone's used one of those leg powered kayaks, I'd like to hear about it. Saw one of the Hobie's with the little wings and it was moving. Looks great but pretty steep price tag new.

Camo: stained rib cookoff t-shirt, swimsuit and flipflops

Tackle: pocket full of clousers and a 6wt disquised as an umbrella

No clue if they're still there, but might as well go in ninja style.

Was up on a family trip last week and while most of the time on the water was spent pulling a tube and screaming human around the lake, I did get to pick up some small mouth bass and a couple other new fish and it was a blast. Good change especially in the middle of August. I had some more ambitious hopes to visit the Ishi Wilderness but unpredictably no one else wanted to spend 8 hours driving in 100° temps to go a total of 50 miles.
