Saturday 28th March, 2009 Not done this in a while so bear with me. For those who haven't been to Scotland this is an excellent primer for the Scottish gathering. Language, attitude to wildlife, that type of thing. Billy Connolly has a house farther up the Don valley so who knows Paul may decide to do some nude float-tubing past his BIG HOOSE! Over on the board some interesting and thoughtful threads, some not. Among the interesting threads Robson Green has been coming in for some criticism - some clearly well deserved. Watching the Billy Connolly clip, his answer when the wee boy asks “What are we catching it for then?” sets some of the more politically correct criticisms of Robson Green in context. Yes of course Green should be slapped for some of his antics, but is fishing really some sort of quasi-religious ritual. Is out fishing now so precious and ritualised that we can't be stupid? Have you seen the Revolution or any of Paul's DVDs? Ok the fish get treated very well indeed but the people go though torture and the sheep look more than a little nervous. Easter holidays loom so I've a fishing date with my 6 and 8 year old niece and nephew. Izzy and Alec want to catch, kill and eat - mainly Izzy - none of your poncy C&R values for her. Killing a couple of trout for the pot will trouble me; Izzy just sees food (happens to have a couple of fins - but dad will soon sort that out.) Magnus
