Ronan's report

Tuesday 11th November, 2008

Hi guys, wherefore are you tonio tonio? Well, I'll be on Tuesday FP, Rich, for now on till July next year normally unless I'll be eaten by a big fish somewhere!

“How can we get to go fishing more often?” That's one of those questions that all serious fishermen have asked themselves at one point. Like another one could be “what will I do if I won the lottery?”. You' ve been thinking about that haven't you! Well to me it's related to fishing...

Let's make a point of the situation: You're working or you're not. If you're working you got the $$$$ (not even all of us), but your missing time to fish! And if your not, well you can go fishing but mostly next to your door. Unfortunately once again some are more lucky than others and live next to one of those spot we've all been dreaming about. Special dedicate to my fishing mates from New Zealand, they'll recognize themselves, bastards

I think that good fishing is about travelling, I mean for me it's about big fish, all catchable species on fly and in the best sceneries you can find and with my friendsssss... Great men outdoor, looking for a place at dark, getting some firewood, turn it on under plenty of rain. Have a shot of something to warm you up. Try to understand a fishing dude who's trying to communicate so hard and you still have no idea of what his talking about, but we still enjoy this conversation and the list is not exhaustive.

So until now here was my way of doing it: Work, save $$$ fishing around my place (Normandy France) one or two times a week and for a full month or a bit more in my summer holidays, save more until I get enough to reach a great water somewhere, for a month or ten.

I've done that twice which was really good, these trip were like openers to me. People you meet will always present you different living styles. And that's when you start thinking that everything is possible. Why should I work for eleven months and enjoy only one?! While some of us are working half of the year and enjoying the rest of it, and even more! Recently a good friend of mine said mmm, 20 days of work should be enough to keep me going!! ... Mmm fucker!

SO YEAH I'M CHANGING MY PLAN!

Here is my new plan: TA DA!!! I' ll be taking a course in France to become a fly fishing guide somewhere, from November to July next year and I' ll be writing about it. So there' s already 3 good things: I'm back to school, I'm paid for, and I'll be living in one of the best areas in France to fly fish!!!

I was reading recently “Great water, great fish” by John Ross. When he comes to the chapter FRANCE, he speaks about Normandy, where I started fly fishing, Brittany where you can catch browns, salmons, sea runs and more. Ask Sam Davis, he knows about that shit. Then comes “Les Pyrenees” also very nice for trout and salmon and my final destination this year: “Franche Compte” where flows rivers like: L'Ain, Le Doubs, Le dessoubre, La Loue... Isn' t it nice!!

Did you know that France contains more trout water than any of the coutries of continental Europe? Well I didn't until now!

Ps: if you have any secret plan which could answer my initial question “ how can I get to fish more?” Tell us about it!

Pps: we are also interested in: Becoming a guide, how does that work in the other countries?

Cheers. TonioTonio fly fishing dude.
