Ronan's report

Tonio Tonio is on his way back to France where he'll be taking a course to become a fishing guide. In France you need to have taken and passed this course in order to legally work as a guide. It's an eight-month course and covers everything from management to fishing, I'm told. Next week in this spot Tonio will talk about the course and will write regularly for the FP on his progress. Split-the-Cane Christian is currently fishing Australia.

Tonio and I have been great friends for a long time. I first met him when we created The Instructor film in 2004 and I threw him in the river, again later when he joined me for a month in Montana, last season in New Zealand, this season in Spain and recently again for Hungarian Asp Hunting. So we've camped a fished a fair bit together around the world! I think he'll make a fantastic fishing guide.

Today I had an unusual request: help in sponsoring three Hungarians to sail around the world. Flyfishing is out, probably, and as I understand it they're going to need to eat the odd fish from time to time. I'm thinking small boat rods and reels, maybe some rod holders, jigs, hooks, weights, spinners, couple of reels and fighting butt holder/s - one of the ladies is handicapped in one arm.

Their route is from Croatia, down past Africa, Australia, around the pole and home again. They're not going to be inshore fishing but travelling over deep water mostly. So what do you reckon? Trolling? Any recommendations on brands? Answers please here on the Board!

Oh yeah and they leave in ten days FFS.
