Ronan's report

Monday September 22nd, 2008

Today we are ten years old! Here's a Vortex, Past Present Future.

I've been fishing Southern Alberta, Canada, for the last couple of weeks. The first week I fished with Daniel from Fly Tackle Europe and Mark aka Stoatstail our Friday contriutor. We fished a bunch, drank a bunch, bullshitted a bunch - everything comes in bunches with these guys, go figure! We had good fishing on secret and not-so-secret rivers before Daniel left leaving his boots, Sexyloops Hoodie and Cap behind, which I've since sold of course.

Last week I fished with Walter from Go Wyld and we had some outstanding fishing on one of Bob's favourite rivers. One day I had 18 fish, only a couple being dinks, with many over 2 lbs and one, a rainbow, of just over three. And on another river I had a couple of fish well over four pounds, which for this part of the world is good fishing.

I'm sharing the truck at the moment with Dr Babus and a mouse. Why the mouse has decided to join us I have no idea, however I would like him to leave. Two nights ago he woke me up by jumping over my feet, while I dreamed a snake was crawling over my feet - that woke me up. And last night he built a nest under my driving seat. Later I discovered him under the bonnet sleeping in my running gear. Babus thinks he's "cute" and I believe secretly invited him to travel with us. Women huh?

I'm way behind on emails, principally because we've been going to hard on the rivers. Autumn is here, winter is in the air today, the fish are on and we're making the most of it. Babus has actually learned to fish in the last couple of weeks and doesn't look like a beginner any more. Which is wonderful, in fact she's actually starting to really enjoy it, when it's not super-cold.

Great fun, camping, lighting fires, fishing, living in the mountains, running. It's nice to be back here.

We start making our way to Nova Scotia this week, which will take us around two weeks, with fishing. On the 13th October I'm giving a course there. Send me an email if you are interested, we'll have the full details up tomorrow. I've created an intensive intermediates and above course which I gave for the first time here in Alberta. We're limiting numbers to ten so you'll have to get in fast.

Have a great week and check out the Vortex; we're moving forward.

Cheers,
Paul
