Congratulate him here!
Happy Birthday! Cheers! ~The Loops Crew
Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3
"Having heard about Paul through his early version of the Sexyloops website – but more tellingly from the great Bruce Richards – I just thought I had to meet this dude. My opportunity arose at one of the earlier Musto casting championships in England, where the APGAI boys were all offering tuition for 10 quid, taking all comers. I thought that since I really didn't know how to cast, I might as well take a lesson from the legend, while he was still affordable. So I stood in the queue, payed my money, and waited for the appointed time. Having never met Paul, and with pictures available only before he lost his hair, I didn't quite know who to look for, especially since most round-eyes look alike to me to begin with. Anyway, at the appointed time, I went to the APGAI booth, and was directed down the line of instructors to someone who looked like a cross between Jet Li, Telly Savalas, and Buddha. The allotted 10 minutes of my lesson passed quickly, and I learned absolutely nothing. On the other hand, I felt like I made a friend for life, so I guess it's was a good deal. If I had known he was going to be so old, however, I might have asked for a seniors discount..."
Happy 43rd Mr Manshit
We all have stories of how we first met Paul and they are never along normal lines.
After months of emailing the man himself I was working at a 5 star Queenstown hotel when this dirty, dusty old vehicle pulled up across the road. As we watched from behind the desk, 2 unsavoury looking characters got out and stood there, eying the establishment for several minutes before slowly making their way across the road.
On alert, as they looked a bit shady, my concierge stood near the doorway and with myself ready to intervene we watched their approach from the darkness. As they entered the lobby the camo T Shirt and dirty ripped polyprops sparked recognition and then into the 23 Carat gold ceilinged Marbled floored Millennium strutted our Mr Arden and sidekick Tonio, fresh from a week in the bush and looking like two!
Since then my life has never been the same. Manshit has taken over and adventure lies at every turn: Party hats, towrope climbs, pink psychos, goats, random international visitors, multisport aspirations and Chillies.
It's been an interesting 4 years and I look forward to many more! Happy 43rd Old Chap!
It's the Übercaster's birthday - 43 winters is something to celebrate, we thought, and this is how we do it!
I think it's been 5 or 6 years since I first met Paul, I can't remember for certain! I know I didn't have digital camera (I think Paul did). I first came into contact with Paul through Sexyloops - but back then it was *very* different from now!
Even back then, Paul had seen the light in a discussion-board, but all communication went via email to the Board, through Paul! A good way to avoid spam and sex-ads, but dude, that was really naive :-)
I remember the first night at my place. Paul arrived late with a couple of other dudes, and they went to bed early, where as Paul and I stayed up late, discussed flylines (back then, the Rio Windcutter was hot news :-), splept for an hour after consuming Ardensic amounts of redwine, and then we went fishing. I think Paul still lives like that - more or less :-).
We need to hook up again soon, Paul!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BROTHER!
